About us

The Shropshire Botanical Society is an independent association of professional and amateur botanists concerned with botany, ecology and conservation in Shropshire. It is a voluntary society with the aim of promoting the study and appreciation of botany; conducting research into and recording the flora and plant communities of Shropshire (v.c. 40); and co-operating with other organisations to promote the conservation of the flora of the county.

The society has some 120 members, and has been in existence (under various names) since 1973, when the Shropshire Flora Project was initiated by Charles Sinker. That project resulted in the publication of the Ecological Flora of the Shropshire Region in 1985. Since then the society has continued to study, record and write about the botany of the county, most recently producing the third edition of Rare Plants of Shropshire in 2005.
